Thank you for helping us welcome thousands of runners, volunteers, spectators, and visitors to Baltimore for the Altra Charles Street 12 presented by Kelly Benefits. We understand that hosting a large community event impacts your neighborhood, and we appreciate your patience and support.
The Charles Street 12 is one of Baltimore's signature running events, bringing participants from throughout Maryland and beyond to experience our city's neighborhoods, landmarks, and local businesses. The 12-mile point-to-point course begins at The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson and travels south along historic Charles Street before finishing next to Riverside Park. Following the race, participants enjoy a post-race celebration inside the park. The event is also part of the B3 Distance Series and supports Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA) and several other local civic and charitable organizations, including the Riverside Neighborhood Association.
Participants & spectators are being encouraged to utilize parking we have secured in Lots B & C of the Camden Yards Sports Complex (CYSC) in an effort to reduce demand for parking in your neighborhood. Participants who park at CYSC will be shuttled from the parking area to the start line early in the morning, and then shuttled from the finish line back to the CYSC when they complete the race.
We have requested the absolute minimum parking restrictions necessary in the neighborhood, as we know parking is at a premium. The no parking areas described below and shown on the map (see below) are in place to reserve space for our medical personnel, handicap participants, and critical race operations.
Because we have minimized no parking zones to lessen the impact of the event, vehicles parked along the race course may be unable to leave during the race until a safe path can be made, and could experience significant travel delays. If you know you need to travel on 9/5 between 7:30 AM & 11 AM we strongly suggest parking your vehicle off of the course (see streets listed below) and being mindful of one-way streets that may exit onto the course. If you need to leave unexpectedly, please locate a BPD officer at the nearest intersection for assistance, keeping in mind that depending on your location it may not be possible to move your vehicle safely – PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE ON A STREET WITH ACTIVE PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC!
Our goal above all others is to provide a safe experience for runners, residents, staff, and volunteers. We are asking for your assistance to reach this goal by observing the no parking signage, following the directions of law and traffic enforcement personnel, and slowing down on Saturday, 9/5. By 4:00 PM on race day, the park and neighborhood should look like nothing ever happened. We encourage you to come out, cheer the runners on, and take part in the excitement of your friends and neighbors achieving an amazing goal!
